The SeHeMe Home&Away Online Magazine: Empowering Migrant Voices

26 March, 2024

By Ines MANSOURI from PADIL

The SeHeMe Project is dedicated to empowering migrants through the development of their media linguistic and language skills, enabling them to effectively express their narratives and perspectives on various social and daily topics. A pivotal component of this initiative is the “Home & Away” online magazine, emerging as a platform for migrants to freely articulate their voices and experiences within the host society. By fostering a space where migrants can share their stories and insights, the magazine endeavours to enhance their confidence in communicating with the broader community. Through this exchange, the project seeks to promote inclusivity and understanding between migrants and the host society, paving the way for greater acceptance and integration.

Research Phase
Each partner in the SeHeMe project plays a vital role in the research phase, contributing their expertise and resources to ensure the success of the “Home & Away” magazine. Working on different geographical levels adds significant value to the project, as it allows for a diverse range of perspectives and experiences to be represented. Partners collaborate to gather stories and insights from migrants across various regions, enriching the content of the magazine and providing a comprehensive view of migrant experiences. Through this collaborative effort, the magazine becomes a true reflection of the diversity and complexity of migrant life.

Content of the Home&Away Magazine
The “Home & Away” magazine serves as a platform for migrants to reclaim their identities and assert their perspectives with confidence and authenticity. Each story shared becomes a testament to the richness and diversity of migrant experiences, challenging stereotypes and preconceptions that often overshadow their voices. Topics covered in the magazine range from discrimination & security to integration & work, homesickness, family & friends, cultural differences & similarities, and opportunities. By sharing their stories on these various social and daily topics, migrants not only assert their presence but also cultivate understanding and empathy within the host society. Through heartfelt narratives, migrants open up about the joys and challenges of their experiences, fostering empathy and understanding among readers.
